So, our Mackintosh album is mastered, the booklet notes are written and delivered (on time!), and now I can look forward to watching it start to look like an album as well as sounding like one. Sitting at my desk I’m surrounded by physical artifacts of music I’ve bought recently: the box of Gonwards with its card game, the new Flipron album (I got a badge and some stickers!), Kid Koala’s Space Cadet (a whole book) and of course Building Stories, which strictly speaking doesn’t have any actual musical content but you have to read it as though it were music anyway (didn’t Chris Ware say something like that once?). I haven’t had time to listen properly to any of the music in the first three yet, but I quite like having the physicality of the products around in the meantime – mp3 downloads aren’t everything.
So now, four funding applications and the company accounts. Being a musician can involve very little time spent actually making music.
