When I was still a hairy undergraduate in 1986 (see photo from a few weeks ago) the violinist Fran Turner got me a gig playing with some baroque chamber music pals in London, and I got to play the G minor version of the big Bach B minor flute sonata BWV1030b with oboist Gail Hennessy. Gail was much more patient with me and with my lack of preparation and technique than I really deserved, but the reason I mention this now is that she’s broken both her wrists on holiday on Islay. This is kind of serious when you play the oboe for a living, so if you would like, please leave her cheering messages (or even some dosh) here.
