The backlog of unanswered mail, undone tasks, and general stuff has reached a critical level here, so I’ve had to spend some of this week backing out of projects from later in the year, just so that I can free some time to regain some sort of control.  Because continually being reminded that your work is out of control can become very stressful indeed.

I also became aware that I wasn’t receiving emails since we moved our ConCal domain name over to a new host: or rather I was receiving email, but only once a day in an enormous deluge.  After trying to get our hosts to explain why their forwarding wasn’t working, it eventually transpired that BT Yahoo was deliberately holding onto ConCal mail as a result of ‘user complaints’. Uh?  So this seemed like the perfect cue to prioritise another stressful task, the migration of about 10 years’ worth of mail over to a Gmail account so that I can access it by IMAP from anywhere. This is still churning away on the laptop in the corner as I write, but as it started last night, and for reasons too complicated to explain here, an employee of Sergey Brin at Google in San Francisco turned up on the doorstep to ask if she could print her boarding pass to California in return for a couple of bottles of beer. So I asked her to give Sergey my best for providing his helpful email service.
