I was reminded today of why I’ve managed to gradually move my life away from the classical music world. The classical recording industry has changed hugely in the last decade or two, and now seems to have a realistic, if occasionally pessimistic, view of its place in the world.  Some parts of the classical music performance industry, on the other hand, still maintain an attitude and culture of self-importance, which is at odds with their function as state-subsidised entertainment of sometimes questionable cultural relevance.

Well, I’m sure I can be a self-important git from time to time too (see above).
