Forgot to post this picture taken in Hyndland St by the market on Saturday. As you can see, the signwriter didn't really plan ahead and stre-t-c-h-e-d out the text as he went on, still leaving a huge gap which had to be filled with a full stop.
Happy musical discovery of the day is the joy of Bilbo Berger's drum fills on Heatwave records. Rock-solid, tight and funky, when he does a fill, he usually speeds up. Now this is normally a cardinal sin in my book, but ... he ends every fill with a gap, and then waits before putting the downbeat in exactly the right place. So what happens in quick succession is: an increase in tension, a great big hole (which a might have a horn fill in it) and then the next downbeat just where it should be. You can watch him do it at 2'31 here (although to be fair that one doesn't speed up) - or listen to the amazing variety of great big holes in this. Full marks also to Rod Temperton for being supremely funky while looking not very funky at all really.
