I haven't achieved a great deal this weekend other than getting my brain around its second new operating system of the month. Having got to grips with OS X on the Mac at the university (I'm still not a believer) I made the jump to Windows 7 here at home on the shiny new Dell that arrived on Friday. The weather's been beautiful outside, which has added to the occasional frustrations involved in setting up a new machine, migrating 130GB of data and countless programs. Firefox wins the prize for ease of transfer, appearing magically with all its bells and whistles, add-ons and passwords intact. Hewlett-Packard gets the booby prize, for not providing up-to-date drivers for perfectly good hardware (scanner and laser printer) that just happens to be 8 or 9 years old. So it took a bit of googling for fellow-sufferers to find solutions there.
I also took the opportunity to clear up the fire-risk of electrical spaghetti that was behind my desk. It's now a bit neater, much cleaner, and every plug and ambiguous cable has a label on it. But my 'urgent' worklist from Friday remains largely untouched.
