I’ve got an unexpectedly free day after what I was going to do this afternoon got cancelled at the last minute, so I’m back here in the Rare Books and Music Reading Room with Tuesday’s pile of 18^th century tune books. This is a very nice place to work: it almost makes you proud to be British.

Last night in Cambridge I had a very enjoyable if slightly too alcoholic evening with old buddy Gordon’s family and friends, which went well into the night. Some of it we spent in the sympathetic confines of the Live and Let Live – you just don’t get pubs like that in Scotland ...
